Amgen Scholars Program at the University of Washington
The Amgen Scholars Program is a summer research program sponsored by the Amgen Foundation. It is has program sites at several universities across the U.S. and Europe. I was a member of the University of Washington Cohort.
As an Amgen Scholar, I received the opportunity to engage in a new scientific question in the lab of Dr. William Atkins in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Washington. My project was centered on using biophysical techniques, such as surface plasmon resonance and analytical ultracentrifugation, to create a new and accurate way to measure the concentration of quantum dots in solution, which are currently being developed for drug delivery and biomedical imaging.
Of course, we also had fun.
